Travel company Off the Beaten Path has announced a new nine-day small group itinerary through the Great Lakes Northwoods region. The newly introduced trip, named Splendid Superior, focuses on the wilderness, maritime history, and environment surrounding Lake Superior.

The itinerary guides travelers from Duluth, Minnesota, through the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and Isle Royale National Park. Designed for small groups, the excursion incorporates guided hikes, naturalist interpretation, and local history.

Cory Lawrence, president and CEO of Off the Beaten Path, stated that the journey was developed for travelers drawn to remote landscapes and national parks. Lawrence noted that the itinerary is intended to connect participants with the local maritime history and regional wildlife.

Scheduled stops include sandstone cliffs and historic lighthouses along the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, as well as Keweenaw National Historical Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Travelers will also take a ferry crossing to Isle Royale National Park for a three-night stay at Rock Harbor Lodge, where they will learn about the island’s long-running moose and wolf population study.

The travel program has officially opened bookings for its 2027 departures, with scheduled trip dates running in June, August, and September. Pricing for the small group journey starts at $8,595 per person based on double occupancy, with a maximum capacity of 16 travelers per group.
