Nikon announces new prime cinema lens series covering large format camera sensors

Nikon Inc. has announced the development of the NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV series, a line of cinema lenses designed for professional video productions, filmmakers, and content creators. The upcoming collection will feature nine prime lenses, including the NIKKOR Z CINEMA 50mm T1.9 VV.

The new lens series incorporates a design philosophy intended to combine high rendering performance with practical handling for professional production environments. Each lens in the lineup is built to support high-end cinema workflows.

The NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV series marks the first NIKKOR lens line engineered with an image circle large enough to cover sensors larger than full frame. This includes compatibility with the RED V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor.

To further support operator workflows, the lenses will feature a highly precise autofocus mechanism. The integration aims to enhance creative efficiency across a range of cinema and digital media setups.

Nikon developed the new series as part of its ongoing integration with RED to expand options for visual expression in cinema. Additional details regarding release timelines and specific focal lengths across the nine-lens lineup have not yet been announced.
