Oscar winner Morgan Freeman has organized a collaborative musical project to honor the history of the blues. The upcoming 12-song collection, titled Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience, is scheduled for release on August 14 through Decca Records.

The album rollout began with the release of the single “Cadillac Assembly Line,” which features lead vocals and guitar from five-time Grammy winner Keb’ Mo’. The track features backing instrumentation from the Ground Zero Blues Club Band and the European ensemble Chineke! Orchestra.

Freeman functions as both the narrator and a producer for the record, drawing inspiration from his childhood experiences in the Mississippi Delta. He co-founded the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 2001 to provide a permanent venue for local musicians.

The upcoming album was created in partnership with Visit Mississippi, and all generated proceeds will go toward the Ground Zero Arts Foundation. The foundation provides economic assistance, healthcare services, and career preservation resources to contemporary blues musicians working in the state.

Recording sessions for the project occurred across multiple international locations, with producer Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell tracking musicians at Royal Studios in Memphis. The Chineke! Orchestra recorded its contributions at Abbey Road Studios in London under the direction of conductor Martin Gellner.

The full track list features an array of blues performers, including Taj Mahal, Shemekia Copeland, Alvin Youngblood Hart, and Keith Johnson. Additional contributions to the album include performances by Super Chikan, Lady Adrena, Anthony “Big A” Sherrod, Tiernii Jackson, and the Stax Music Academy Choir.
