Michaels introduces Hobbyween collection for seasonal crafting projects

Michaels Unveils “Hobbyween,” Fueling Growing Demand for Hands-On Halloween

Craft retailer Michaels has launched its largest seasonal product line to date, introducing a Halloween collection centered on hands-on project kits. The rollout, titled Hobbyween, features hundreds of exclusive craft options across categories including fiber arts, paint-by-number sets, and group party activities.

The launch follows an increase in seasonal search activity on the company’s website. Search queries for early seasonal crafting expanded ahead of the traditional fall period, with searches for summer-focused Halloween terms rising 530 percent in May compared to the prior year.

Fiber arts show specific growth within the retailer’s seasonal search data. Inquiries for Halloween crochet kits rose 583 percent year over year, while searches for embroidery and cross-stitch items each increased by nearly 400 percent, and needlepoint searches climbed 251 percent.

The 2026 collection includes beginner and advanced kits for punch needle and needlework, alongside new marker, embossed, and framed mini paint-by-number sets. The inventory also features unfinished raw surfaces for custom home displays, mystery blind-box craft kits, and party multipacks designed for group gatherings.

According to data from the company’s 2026 trend report, 70 percent of its surveyed shoppers report making their own seasonal decorations by hand. The new craft collection is currently available at all store locations as well as through the retailer’s online platforms.
