Jerry Garcia Music Arts has partnered with Terrapin Stationers to rerelease the art book J.Garcia: Paintings, Drawings and Sketches. The project marks the return of the rare collection originally printed in 1992 and coincides with the late musician’s birthday.
Best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Grateful Dead, Garcia was also a visual artist. His drawings, paintings, and sketches continue to be displayed in museum and gallery exhibitions internationally.
The republished book features an original dedication from Garcia to his wife, Manasha Garcia. According to Ted Harrington of Terrapin Stationers, a 1987 conversation between Garcia and his wife led the musician to begin signing his visual work and traveling with sketchbooks on tour.
Garcia maintained a home art room where he painted and drew daily alongside his wife and daughter, Keelin Garcia. Both family members recalled those drawing sessions as a quiet sanctuary for Garcia following busy concert tours.
The new edition of the art book offers fans and collectors access to Garcia’s visual portfolio. Copies of the collection are currently available through the RetroActv website.
