Independent singer-songwriter James Westbrook has announced a new full-length album focused on human connection and the desire to escape ordinary life. The upcoming release explores emotional relationships while addressing a personal sense of restlessness.
Throughout the project, Westbrook examines interpersonal dynamics and the pursuit of a more vivid existence beyond daily routines. The lyrics explore both literal and metaphorical ideas of escape, aiming to capture moments where personal relationships and life experiences become richer.
“If there’s a theme to the songs on this album, and in my work generally, it’s connection,” Westbrook said regarding the project. “A lot of the songs are about ‘you and me’ and trying to understand the human heart. There’s also a theme of escape that runs through what I write lyrically, about slipping free of the dull and ordinary that life tends to impose on us.”
Westbrook is a self-taught left-handed musician who plays by ear and works without record label support. His musical style draws from traditional Americana influences and classical artists, including The Beatles, Tom Petty, The Eagles, and John Mellencamp.
To date, the artist has independently released 32 singles and two EPs, with two full-length albums currently in development. His single “All You Have” has accumulated over half a million streams, and he maintains a monthly audience between 7,000 and 10,000 listeners on Spotify.
