Platinum-selling country artist Bryan Martin released his new album, OD’in On A Dream, on Oct. 30 through Average Joes Entertainment. The album is available everywhere and is described as his most deeply personal work yet. It was written during one of the darkest chapters of his life.
On the album, Martin confronts addiction, shame, the sacrifices of life on the road, and the cycles of generational pain he is determined to break. It serves as his final salute to his old self as he closes that chapter for good.
Nick Gibbens, whose credits include Thomas Rhett and Montgomery Gentry, produced the album. Martin co-wrote 11 of its 13 tracks alongside songwriters including Lydia Vaughan, Will Bundy, Ben Roberts and Jeremy Bussey. Musicians include drummer Fred Eltringham, who has worked with Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow and Miranda Lambert, and bassist Steve Mackey, who has worked with Luke Combs and Bailey Zimmerman.
The country-rockers “I Ain’t Changed,” “Old Dog New Tricks” and “Rather Be The Fire” offer a defiant declaration of staying true to his rebellious ways. “Real Man” shows a more vulnerable side, singing of the quiet strength and sacrifices made for those we love. “Tug O’ War” explores the push and pull between his vices and his faith.
Other tracks look at his struggles more closely. “Complex” retraces the origins of his self-destructive patterns, and “Take It From Me” is a cautionary tale about giving in to temptation. On “Last Train To Heaven,” Martin sings about feeling unworthy of grace, while “Demons Don’t Sleep” reflects on the inescapable nature of internal struggles.
“If Loving Me Was Easy” and “Home Sweet Living Hell” deal with heartbreak and regret, and “For The Better” questions how easily wedding vows were undone. The funk-rock-infused title track brings the album’s central theme full circle by confronting the personal toll of relentlessly chasing a dream.
Martin performs at Texas Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Nov. 6. He then joins Gavin Adcock and Trey Pendley for the sold-out Wolf’s Naughty Christmas Show at Ponderosa Lounge and Grill in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 4. On Dec. 5, he plays Steel Creek American Whiskey Co. in Tacoma, Washington. A full list of tour dates is available at bryanmartinofficial.com.
