The Museum of Science, Boston announced the upcoming opening of Life Chronicles, a new virtual reality exhibition tracking 3.5 billion years of evolutionary history. The experience officially opens to the general public on June 17, 2026, with early access events scheduled for museum members on June 13 and June 14.

The 30-minute virtual expedition guides participants through nine distinct historical paleo-landscapes. Visitors navigate the digital environment alongside a virtual guide character, a young researcher named Charlie, and her companion robot, Darwin. The narrative travels from the earliest origins of planetary life through the era of the dinosaurs and up to the dawn of human history. The production is accessible for visitors aged 8 and older.

Excurio developed the installation in collaboration with the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle. To ensure factual accuracy, a team of more than 30 scientific experts contributed to the project. This group included paleontologists, paleobotanists, evolution specialists, and bioacousticians who assisted with the scriptwriting, 3D graphic production, and environmental audio design.

The attraction utilizes free-roaming virtual reality technology powered by LBXR Pulse, Excurio’s proprietary technology platform. The system operates within physical spaces scaled between 3,000 and 10,000 square feet. This specific technological setup allows the venue to accommodate groups of 40 to over 130 people simultaneously within the same shared virtual environment.

Tim Ritchie, Gwill York President of the Museum of Science, stated that the installation uses immersive technology to explore the history of the natural world. Ticket sales and scheduling information are available directly through the official museum website at mos.org.
