Nearly 250 military mothers from across the United States will gather in the Columbus area from July 27 through August 1, 2026. The attendees are meeting for the 82nd Annual Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. National Convention. The event will take place at The Ohioan Hotel and Event Center.
The convention serves as the organization’s annual business meeting and offers members opportunities for leadership development, education, and service projects. This year’s gathering coincides with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The organization plans to use the timing to honor generations of military families.
Blue Star Mothers of America National President Karen Stillwell stated that the convention is an annual meeting where members share experiences and learn new ways to serve the military community. Stillwell noted that the gathering is meaningful during America’s 250th celebration to honor the legacy of military service and the families behind the uniform.
The scheduled events for the week include opening ceremonies, educational breakout sessions, and a memorial service for fallen service members. Attendees will also participate in service projects benefiting veterans, visit the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, and elect national officers. Delegates representing chapters from across the country will conduct the annual business in accordance with the organization’s bylaws.
Members will also support the National President’s Project, which benefits the 3rd & Goal Foundation. Additionally, attendees will participate in the “Miles for Our Veterans: If These Boots Could Talk” Virtual 5K. These initiatives are intended to support veterans and military families beyond the scheduled convention timeline.
Founded in 1942 during World War II, Blue Star Mothers of America was chartered by Congress in 1960. The nonprofit organization consists of mothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, and female legal guardians of individuals who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces. Local chapters volunteer thousands of hours annually through care package programs, veteran support initiatives, and community outreach.
