Adult Swim announced a slate of new series orders and programming updates during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The television network officially gave a full-season order to Heist Brothers, a ten-episode, quarter-hour animated action comedy created by Genndy Tartakovsky. The project is currently in production at Cartoon Network Studios and follows the story of three frog brothers robbing a bank.
The stop-motion comedy series Robot Chicken is returning with two new specials produced by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The first half-hour special, scheduled to premiere on August 30, celebrates the network’s 25-year history and will stream the following day on HBO Max. A second special focusing on Cartoon Network characters is currently in production to commemorate that network’s 35th anniversary in 2027.
Cartoon Network will also mark its 35th anniversary with a new five-part documentary series. The production explores the history of the network from its origins, utilizing classic animation libraries, to its development of original storytelling. The series will combine historical archival footage with newly filmed interviews featuring various animation artists and storytellers.
The network announced that the new animated series President Curtis will debut on July 26 at 11:30 p.m. on Adult Swim, with episodes streaming the next day on HBO Max. Set within the Rick and Morty universe, the series is co-created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. The voice cast features Keith David in the title role, alongside Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash.
During the festival events, Adult Swim hosted a work-in-progress panel for the second season of Common Side Effects with co-creators Joe Bennett and Steve Hely. The network also screened the pilot episode of My Two Cars, a new show in production from co-creators Joe Pera and Dan Licata.
