WETA, Maggie Baird announce ‘Climate Kitchen’ lifestyle series for public media

Maggie Baird and WETA Washington, D.C., announced Thursday the development of “Climate Kitchen,” a new lifestyle cooking series focused on sustainable living and plant-based nutrition.
The original series is scheduled to begin production later this year and is slated to premiere on public media stations nationwide in 2027.
Co-created and hosted by Baird, the founder of Support+Feed and mother to musical artists Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, the show is described as a blend of cooking, lifestyle, and documentary storytelling. The programming aims to demonstrate how daily food choices and household habits impact environmental issues, including food waste and climate change.
“Living a more sustainable, earth-friendly lifestyle can seem all-or-nothing, overwhelming, and expensive,” Baird said in a statement. “Climate Kitchen is about embracing progress over perfection.”
The series will feature a variety of guests, including Eilish and O’Connell, Martha Stewart, oceanographer Sylvia Earle, and “The Blue Zones” author Dan Buettner. Other scheduled guests include climate activist Xiye Bastida, Farm Link Project co-founder Aidan Reilly, and Cyklar founder Claudia Sulewski.
“Climate Kitchen” is part of Well Beings, a multiplatform health initiative from WETA, the leading public media station in the nation’s capital. Tom Chiodo, executive producer of special projects at WETA, said the series is designed to show how individuals can make a healthy difference “one recipe, one meal or household hack at a time.”
The production is a collaboration between Support+Feed, WETA, and Atlas Films. Award-winning filmmakers Kristin Lazure and Stephanie Soechtig will direct the series.
Initial funding for the project is provided by Little Saint Healdsburg, Universal Music Group, Sam Ballmer, and the PATH Foundation. The series will also include a national engagement campaign featuring digital content and educational resources for local communities.
