Holladay Distillery in Weston, Missouri, released Ben Holladay 10 Year Bourbon on Saturday, Oct. 17. It is the oldest bourbon the distillery has released to date. The release came as the distillery approaches its 170th anniversary on Dec. 5.

The bourbon was distilled using the original Ben Holladay Bourbon mash bill and aged for a decade on-site in the distillery’s iron-clad rickhouses. Master Distiller Kyle Merklein selected standout barrels for the limited release. It is bottled at 111 proof, or 55.5% ABV.

“Ten years gives you a lot of time to watch how a bourbon develops and how the interaction between the whiskey, the barrel and the environment continues to shape it,” Merklein said. He said that at 111 proof, the distillery found the sweet spot where drinkers can experience what those ten years gave the bourbon.

The release also marks a milestone in the distillery’s modern chapter. Holladay’s bourbon revival began a decade ago, which brings the story of the 10 Year full circle. The distillery described it as “ten years in the barrel, 170 years behind it.”

The bourbon went on sale to the public at 10 a.m. at the distillery. It was offered in limited quantities, with a limit of one bottle per person while supply lasted.

Holladay Distillery was founded in 1856 and has called Weston home for nearly 170 years. It continues to distill and age its bourbon on-site.
