48 Hours correspondent Erin Moriarty hosts a new six-episode true crime podcast miniseries titled The Woman in the Woods. The narrative series premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with new episodes releasing every Wednesday across all major podcast platforms.
The podcast investigates the mystery surrounding the deaths of Mindi Kassotis and her husband, Nick. Friends and family were initially told the couple was being hunted due to Nick’s prior classified military work, and later were informed that Mindi had died in a hospital before Nick was also reported dead.
The initial account changed after a woman’s dismembered body was discovered scattered in a swamp outside Savannah, Georgia. Police sketches of the victim resembled Mindi, leading investigators to examine how she appeared to die twice.
Moriarty reports on the layered case throughout the six episodes, examining the deception and events leading up to the discovery in the woods. The series is available on audio platforms including Apple and Spotify, with ad-free access offered to 48 Hours+ subscribers.
This release marks the first time a 48 Hours narrative podcast miniseries integrates both audio and video elements. Previous miniseries from the broadcast were audio-only releases.
Video episodes will release on the 48 Hours YouTube channel on the same day as each audio episode. The video releases feature raw, unreleased interview footage from the original television broadcast, alongside photography, b-roll, and animated text accompanying the narration.
The production is overseen by Judy Tygard, who serves as executive producer of 48 Hours. The broader franchise currently reaches nearly 3 million monthly podcast listeners and maintains more than 2.5 million subscribers on its YouTube channel.
