Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart has announced a new 10-track solo album titled The Way It Was Back Then. The album will be released on Friday, September 18, 2026, through Bay Street Records as a physical-only release available on vinyl and CD.
Written, performed, and produced entirely by Stewart, the album was recorded at Stardust in the Bahamas alongside engineer Jesse Samler. The songs were built from spontaneous, one-take performances with Stewart improvising lyrics, melodies, and chords in real time while playing guitar, keyboard, and programming.
Samler provided bass, drums, keyboard, and programming for the project, with the duo handling the full construction, mixing, and visual layout of the album without external musicians. The project follows Stewart’s 2025 release, Dave Does Dylan, a 14-song tribute album issued for Record Store Day.
The tracklist for the upcoming album features 10 original compositions, including the title track, “Your Wishes,” “The House Where I Was Born,” “Black Cat,” and “What’s A Man Supposed To Do.” Pre-orders for the limited release are being processed directly through the Bay Street Records website.
Over a four-decade career, Stewart has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide through his work with Eurythmics and collaborations with artists such as Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Nicks. His accolades include four BRIT Awards, four Ivor Novello Awards, a Grammy Award, and inductions into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
