Lamont Roach Jr. and William Zepeda scheduled to fight for vacant WBC lightweight world championship
Lamont “The Reaper” Roach Jr. and undefeated challenger William “El Camarón” Zepeda will fight for the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship on Saturday, August 1. The 12-round championship bout serves as the main event for “The Fight,” a new monthly live series broadcast co-exclusively in the United States on TNT and truTV, and worldwide on DAZN. The event takes place at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
General ticket sales start on Friday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m. PT through AXS.com and GoldenBoy.com. Ticket prices are set at $300, $200, $150, $75, $50, and $30, plus applicable fees. A special online pre-sale opens on Thursday, June 4, requiring the code GBPVIP. Golden Boy Promotions is presenting the card in co-promotion with TGB Promotions and ProBox Promotions.
Roach Jr. holds a professional record of 25-1-2 with 10 KOs. The Washington, D.C., fighter previously moved up to lightweight in March 2025 to challenge Gervonta Davis for the WBA title, which resulted in a 12-round majority draw. He later moved up to super lightweight and fought Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz to another majority draw, following an earlier split-decision victory over Hector Luis Garcia to capture the WBA Super Featherweight World Championship.
Zepeda enters the match representing San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, with a record of 34-0 and 27 KOs. His recent ring appearances include a 12-round decision loss against Shakur Stevenson for the WBC Lightweight World Championship in New York City. Prior to that match, Zepeda won and successfully defended the WBC Interim Lightweight World Championship against Tevin Farmer, winning a split decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2024 before securing a 12-round victory in their Cancun, Mexico, rematch four months later.
Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy, stated that Zepeda has earned the title shot through his relentless pressure and work rate. Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions, noted that Roach Jr. brings world-class boxing acumen and grit to face a dangerous contender.
