Rhino High Fidelity has added two Van Morrison albums to its audiophile reissue series, releasing Astral Weeks on vinyl and His Band & The Street Choir on reel-to-reel tape. Both physical media releases are available exclusively through Rhino’s online store and select international Warner Music Group outlets.
The new edition of Astral Weeks was cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal in Germany. Packaged in a glossy gatefold sleeve with new liner notes, the production is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. Originally released in November 1968, the album features jazz-influenced acoustic arrangements on tracks such as “Cyprus Avenue” and “Slim Slow Slider.”
The reel-to-reel release of His Band & The Street Choir is limited to 350 copies worldwide. The edition features quarter-inch tape running at 15 inches per second on a 10.5-inch metal reel, duplicated in real time from a copy of the original analog master tape using RTM LPR90 tape stock.
First released two years after Astral Weeks, His Band & The Street Choir features an R&B sound with horn arrangements and vocal harmonies. The track list includes the Top 10 single “Domino,” along with songs such as “Blue Money,” “I’ve Been Working,” and “Crazy Face.”
The reissues are part of Rhino High Fidelity’s ongoing series drawing from Warner Music’s back catalog. The series focuses on specialized audio sourcing and archival packaging across various genres, including rock, pop, jazz, and soul.
