Talking Heads will release an expanded super deluxe edition of their 1979 studio album Fear of Music on November 13 through Rhino. The group announced the project during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Front Row to launch a dedicated Talking Heads channel.

The primary physical collection is a three-CD and Blu-ray set featuring a new remaster of the original album alongside rare tracks and two unreleased 1979 concerts from Boston and New Jersey. The accompanying Blu-ray contains Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround sound, and high-resolution stereo mixes, as well as rare BBC footage from Old Grey Whistle Test.

In addition to the CD set, Rhino will issue a six-LP vinyl super deluxe edition containing the full concert recordings and rarities, as well as a two-LP set featuring the remastered album and rare tracks. Both vinyl packages include custom etching and a 60-page hardcover book with rare photographs and liner notes by author Will Hermes.

To launch the announcement, a live video performance of “Life During Wartime” from the band’s 1979 BBC broadcast was published on YouTube, coinciding with the song achieving official RIAA Gold certification status.

Originally released on August 3, 1979, Fear of Music reached No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and became the group’s first gold-certified album. Band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison recorded the basic tracks over two days in a Long Island City rehearsal loft before completing production work with Brian Eno.
