San Diego band Slightly Stoopid has released a new single titled “Backseat Drivin’” featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa and musician G. Love. The track was released on Friday, July 17, as the latest preview from the independent group’s upcoming 10th studio album.
The musical collaboration stems from a relationship that began when Slightly Stoopid and Wiz Khalifa met at the Planeta Brasil Festival in 2018. The band has frequently concluded their live performances by covering Khalifa’s song “Young, Wild & Free.” Musician G. Love also returns as a collaborator, having previously performed on the band’s 2025 single “Shine For You.”
The new single blends elements of hip-hop, reggae, rock, funk, and blues to create a summer-themed track. It follows several other recent single releases from the band, including “Step Into The Sun” and “The Upside Down,” which featured guest appearances from B-Real and Chali 2na.
Over a career spanning three decades, Slightly Stoopid has operated independently under their own label, Stoopid Records. Their catalog includes the platinum-certified single “Closer To The Sun” along with gold-certified tracks “2am” and “Collie Man,” contributing to more than 1 million physical album sales.
The release coincides with the group’s ongoing Road Trippin Summer 2026 tour, which follows a recent headline appearance at the Field of Dreamz Festival at Petco Park on June 13. Upcoming concert dates on the schedule include a performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on August 8 and a stop at the Island Rhodes Festival on August 15.
