The Los Angeles rock band The Calling has announced the upcoming release of their new studio album, Before the World Turns to Dust. Scheduled to debut this fall via TLG and Virgin Music Group, the 15-track record will be available digitally, on vinyl, and on CD. This project marks the band’s third studio album and their first full-length collection since 2004.
To introduce the album, the group has released a lead single and accompanying music video titled “Dust.” Frontman Alex Band noted that the track was written as a love song set in an apocalyptic landscape, drawing additional thematic inspiration from quantum physics and astrophysics. The music video, directed by Tom Flynn and co-starring actress Katelynn E. Newberry, was filmed on Band’s family property in Cleveland during an unexpected snowstorm based on a treatment written by his wife.
The current lineup of the band features Band on vocals and guitar, Daniel Damico on lead guitar and keyboards, and Dom Liberati on bass. This iteration of the group has been performing together for four years, building on a long-term personal friendship between Band and Damico that began in the early 2000s. Liberati joined the group after performing previous live shows with Band, bringing a distinct pop sensibility to the band’s traditional rock arrangements.
The Calling originally achieved widespread chart success with their 2001 single “Wherever You Will Go,” which holds the record as the second-longest running number one hit on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart. For the upcoming 15-track release, the musicians chose to stick to their established identity featuring large-scale melodies and guitar work rather than altering their style to chase contemporary radio trends.
The band’s last full-length album project, “Camino Palmero,” was released 25 years ago. Band stated that the group intends to re-enter the modern musical landscape with their classic anthemic presentation, crediting their global fan base with keeping the project alive through the multi-decade recording gap.
