Rudi’s Bakery launches gluten-free PB&J pocket sandwiches and protein bread

Rudi’s Bakery of Boulder, Colorado, has launched two certified gluten-free products: Rudi’s Gluten Free Sandos made with Justin’s Peanut Butter, and Rudi’s Gluten Free Daily Power Protein Bread. The company announced the products Tuesday.

Rudi’s says the Sandos are the first nationally available pre-made, gluten-free, crustless peanut butter and fruit spread pocket sandwich. They are made with Justin’s Classic Peanut Butter and real fruit spread and come in grape and strawberry. The company says the fruit spread means more fruit and less sugar than jam or jelly.

The Sandos are sold in the freezer aisle in 4-count cartons. They are available at Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Thrive Market and other retailers. Rudi’s says it does not use high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors or colors.

“Everyone deserves to enjoy the foods they grew up loving,” said Jane Miller, Rudi’s CEO. She said the Sandos bring a nostalgic comfort food to gluten-free consumers in a convenient format.

Daily Power Protein Bread comes in White and Sourdough. Each serving has 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber, which Rudi’s says are two nutrients typically missing from gluten-free bread. The 18-ounce loaves are available at Sprouts Farmers Market and will arrive at Kroger in November.

Rudi’s said about 3.1 million Americans follow a gluten-free diet, and many report difficulty finding convenient, nutritious options. Miller said gluten-free consumers have long had to compromise on taste and nutrition with bread. She said the company aims to deliver protein and fiber in fluffy slices.
