General contractor and master craftsman Charlie Kawas will lead the new HGTV series Botched Homes, which premieres Wednesday, September 2, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The program focuses on rescuing South Florida homeowners from uncompleted and unsafe renovation projects.
Kawas brings experience from working in New York City to address structural issues, poor workmanship, and dangerous living conditions. He is joined on the series by designer Courtney Ibars and a construction crew to repair unlivable spaces.
“Every home tells a story, and unfortunately many of these families were left with unfinished projects, unsafe conditions and broken trust after hiring the wrong contractor,” Kawas said regarding the show’s focus. “Our job is to restore more than just the house. We want to give homeowners peace of mind by doing the work the right way and creating a home they can finally feel proud of.”
The season premiere features a kitchen with exposed wiring, no hot water, and a stuffed snake holding electrical components together. The initial episode also includes the transformation of a black-and-white checkerboard bathroom that lacks storage space and mirrors.
Future episodes throughout the season will feature projects involving rat infestations, mold, missing exterior doors, and outdated room layouts. Viewers can watch episodes on HGTV or stream them on HBO Max starting Thursdays after they air.
