Björk and the Hamrahlíð Choir have announced the worldwide physical release of Björk & Hamrahlíð Choir – Björk Orkestral with The Hamrahlíð Choir, capturing their October 2021 performance at Reykjavík’s Harpa Concert Hall. The live concert experience will become available on November 27, 2026, across LP, CD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats.
The release presents a unique collaboration between Björk and the renowned Icelandic choral ensemble conducted by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir. Recorded during a series focused on orchestration rather than spectacle, the performance reinterprets selections from Björk’s catalog using choral arrangements, electronics, and vocal performance.
The repertoire draws heavily from the vocal-focused structures of the 2004 album Medúlla and incorporates arrangements performed during Björk’s wider Orkestral residency. Proceeds from the original 2021 concert series supported Kvennaathvarfið, a women’s shelter located in Reykjavík.
The partnership between Björk and the Hamrahlíð Choir spans multiple projects, including contributions to the 2017 album Utopia and the international Cornucopia tour. Members of the choir also recently contributed to immersive sound installations at the National Gallery of Iceland.
Formed by Ingólfsdóttir, the Hamrahlíð Choir has remained a prominent fixture in Icelandic musical culture for decades. The ensemble’s history includes collaborations with numerous composers and international performances across 27 countries.
