A&W Restaurants has announced the launch of a new restaurant prototype designed to combine its traditional style with an updated guest experience. The layout draws inspiration from the company’s classic diners and original roadside root beer stands.
The updated concept ranges from 2,200 to 2,800 square feet and offers seating for 40 to 70 guests. Its layout is flexible to adapt to different market sizes while focusing on functionality and dine-in service.
Betsy Schmandt, chief executive officer and president of A&W Restaurants, stated that the design reflects the future of the brand while maintaining its historic identity. She added that while other brands prioritize transactional experiences, A&W is focusing on handcrafted quality and community hospitality.
The prototype is part of an ongoing brand evolution that includes expanded beverage innovation centered around its signature root beer, which is made fresh daily in every restaurant. The company is also continuing its personalized service approach through its Hometown Hospitality model.
The new layout will serve as the standard format for future location developments across the United States in both new and existing markets. A&W is currently seeking franchise partners, requiring qualified candidates to have a minimum of $300,000 in liquid assets and a total net worth of at least $700,000.
