Julien’s Auctions will offer four artifacts worn by Michael Jackson on Dec. 7 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi. The pieces are part of the Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy Evening Auction.
The lead item is the black and candy-red leather jacket Jackson wore in the 1983 “Thriller” music video. It is one of two jackets made for the production and the only piece Jackson wore in scenes where he does not appear in zombie makeup. Deborah Nadoolman Landis designed it.
Also in the sale are the black leather Florsheim loafers Jackson wore during “Thriller” filming and rehearsals, along with a signed letter to choreographer Michael Peters. The rhinestone-studded glove from his Motown 25 performance is estimated at $600,000 to $800,000. A pair of black Florsheim loafers worn in rehearsals for the performance where he introduced the Moonwalk is estimated at $60,000 to $80,000.
The glove last sold at Julien’s in 2009 for $430,000, a record at the time. Julien’s also set a record for the Thriller jacket in 2011. Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien’s Auctions, said the company is honored to offer the pieces again.
The artifacts were unveiled Oct. 7 at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles. They will go on international previews in the United States, Japan, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
The auction headlines Julien’s first Celebrity & Pop Culture Experience, held Dec. 7 to 9 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi. The event also includes Pop Culture Legends and Princess Diana auctions, exhibitions and cultural programming.
