The HBO Original documentary short Miller Night Football will debut on Tuesday, September 29, airing from 9:00 to 9:40 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streaming on Max. Directed by Jeff Cameron, the film examines comedian Dennis Miller’s time in the broadcast booth for Monday Night Football.
The documentary serves as the first installment in a series of 2026 NFL Shorts, a collection of films exploring stories connected to football. Produced in partnership with NFL Films, the series follows the Sports Emmy Award-nominated short The Shuffle, which launched in November 2025.
Miller Night Football chronicles Miller’s arrival on Monday Night Football in 2000, where he broadcasted alongside sportscaster Al Michaels and former NFL quarterback Dan Fouts. The hiring was intended to reinvigorate the franchise and broaden its audience by introducing Miller’s cerebral humor to the broadcast.
The film features vintage broadcast footage alongside new interviews with Miller, Dana Carvey, and former colleagues from ABC Sports. Additional interview subjects include former broadcasters Dan Fouts, Al Michaels, and Melissa Stark, producers David Israel and Fred Gaudelli, and former ABC Sports President Howard Katz.
Miller Night Football is an NFL Films production directed and edited by Jeff Cameron, with Ross Ketover, Keith Cossrow, Ken Rodgers, and Jessica Boddy serving as executive producers. Executive producers for HBO include Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Bentley Weiner, with Abtin Motia serving as supervising producer.
