The streaming platform HBO Max has detailed its full featured programming lineup for this July, including a comprehensive broadcast schedule for Discovery’s annual Shark Week block. The television additions are highlighted by the July 23 premiere of the Max Original comedy series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which follows comic book store owner Stuart Bloom across 10 weekly episodes. The platform will also debut the four-part HBO Original documentary series, The Man Will Burn, on July 9, tracking the organizational history and recent operational challenges of the annual Burning Man festival.
The July cinematic schedule includes three film arrivals on the platform, beginning with the Lionsgate production The Long Walk on July 10, directed by Francis Lawrence and based on the novel by Stephen King. On July 16, the platform will add the A24 film Marc by Sofia, a biographical portrait of designer Marc Jacobs directed by Sofia Coppola. The monthly movie rollouts conclude on July 31 with the A24 film The Drama, written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, and Hailey Benton Gates.
Discovery’s week-long Shark Week celebration will begin broadcasting nightly on the platform starting Sunday, July 26, featuring 20 total premieres alongside 11 pm nightly encores. Opening night features the 8 pm premiere of “K-Pop Shark Heroes” with Ken Jeong and REI AMI, followed by “Air Jaws: Red, White and Breach” at 9 pm exploring California breaching behaviors. The night concludes at 10 pm with “Invasion of the Mega Sharks,” which follows Dr. Neil Hammerschlag and Paul de Gelder tracking a large great white shark named Big Rose off Nova Scotia.
The schedule continues on Monday, July 27, with “Bull Shark Dinner Bell” at 8 pm investigating shark behaviors in Jupiter, Florida, followed by “House of Sharks” at 9 pm examining competing groups of great whites in New Zealand. At 10 pm, “Biggest Mako on Earth” follows Tristan Guttridge investigating reports of 15-to-20-foot mako sharks near Santa Catalina. On Tuesday, July 28, the platform will air “Jurassic Sharks” at 8 pm utilizing computer-generated imagery, “Jaws vs Orca” at 9 pm tracking killer whale encounters, and “Chum Island: Catching a Killer” at 10 pm documenting an investigation by Dr. Riley Elliott off Australia.
Midweek programming on Wednesday, July 29, begins with “Expedition X: Atomic Sharks” at 8 pm studying the impact of military nuclear testing on marine life in the Marshall Islands. Host Josh Gates presents “Expedition Unknown: Shark Secrets” at 9 pm to analyze historical shark encounters, followed by Forrest Galante hosting “Alien Sharks: Untamed America” at 10 pm. On Thursday, July 30, the investigative series “What Shark Attacked?” opens at 8 pm, preceding “How to Train a Great White” at 9 pm and a high-altitude helicopter diving attempt by Molly Carlson in “Ultimate Shark Dive” at 10 pm.
The broadcast event concludes its final weekend block starting Friday, July 31, with “Secrets of the Great White Kill” at 8 pm, followed by “Sharkzilla Takes New York” at 9 pm investigating marine life and a mako hotspot near the Hamptons. The 10 pm slot features “My Strange Shark Addiction,” profiling four individuals dedicated to the apex predators. On Saturday, August 1, the event concludes with “Great White Highway” at 8 pm tracking migration patterns along the East coast, followed by “Thresher Shark: Stun to Kill” at 9 pm examining tail strike physics, with final encores running at 10 pm and 11 pm.
