Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL running back Ricky Williams will release a memoir titled The Long Run on October 7. The book is published by Listenin and is currently available for pre-order.

The memoir details Williams’ progression from his athletic background in San Diego to setting 21 NCAA records and winning the 64th Heisman Trophy at the University of Texas. It follows his path through the 1999 NFL Draft and his career as a professional running back.

The book addresses his decision to leave the NFL in 2004 at the height of his professional career, following a potential positive marijuana test. The narrative expands on the events previously covered in the ESPN documentary Run Ricky Run by providing Williams’ personal perspective.

In the memoir, Williams discusses navigating fame, social anxiety, public scrutiny, mental health, and his search for identity outside of professional football. The text explores his transition into work as an astrologer, entrepreneur, cannabis advocate, teacher, and software developer.

Williams currently serves as the chief executive officer and co-founder of Lila Labs, an astrology-based software company, and co-founded the cannabis brand Highsman. An exclusive first interview regarding the book release and cover display appeared in Men’s Journal.
