The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts will present the world premiere of Women+ on the Edge of Democracy on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. The all-day performance will take place on the Flynn’s Main Stage in Burlington, Vermont, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Created in partnership with The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the initiative features 36 monologues and short plays written by international women+ playwrights. The commissioned works explore the current state of democracy in America as part of the country’s semiquincentennial year.
Playwrights contributing to the project include Lynn Nottage, Sarah Ruhl, Heidi Schreck, Beth Henley, and Dael Orlandersmith. The performance marks the first time all 36 plays will be staged together, presented back-to-back by a company of actors.
Tickets to the event are free to the public, with reservations opening to Flynn members on Sept. 10 and to the general public on Sept. 17. The Flynn lobby will remain open throughout the day for audience connection and reflection.
Performance rights for the play collection will be waived for non-profit organizations nationwide staging free public readings between Oct. 23 and Nov. 3. Theatre Communications Group will publish the anthology on Nov. 3, ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections.
