Canon debuts world’s longest focal length cine-servo lens at NAB 2026

Canon U.S.A., Inc. announced a significant expansion of its professional imaging ecosystem with the introduction of the CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8 lens. The company also unveiled a comprehensive firmware suite for its Cinema EOS camera lineup, including the C400, C80, C70, C50, and R5C models.
The new lens builds on the legacy of the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm, offering an expanded 40-1200mm range that can reach up to 1800mm with a built-in 1.5x extender. Despite the increased reach, the lens maintains a portable design, weighing 14.6 lbs. and measuring 16 inches in length for the PL mount version. It is designed for diverse production environments, including wildlife, sports, and live events.

Technical features of the CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm include a next-generation drive unit with USB-C PD support and focus breathing compensation. The lens provides native Super 35mm sensor coverage and full-frame coverage when the integrated extender is engaged. For virtual production workflows, the PL mount version supports Zeiss eXtended Data and Cooke /i Technology, while the RF mount integration enables precision Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and focus guide functions.
In addition to the hardware, Canon announced major firmware updates scheduled for release in summer 2026. Highlights include the addition of Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation for the EOS C400 to manage light loss during zooms, and new USB control protocols for the C400, C80, and C50 to allow remote operation of critical functions. The updates also improve SRT streaming reliability with auto-reconnection capabilities and introduce a color-changing “Level” display to assist with gimbal and tripod setups.
The CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm lens is scheduled to begin shipping in September 2026 with an estimated retail price of $79,999.00. Both the new lens and the firmware updates will be showcased at NAB 2026 in Las Vegas from April 19-22, where attendees can participate in hands-on demonstrations at the Canon booth.
