The Emmy-nominated weekly television series Hearts of Heroes will return for its eighth season next month with actress, author, and entrepreneur Brooke Shields joining the program as its new host. Produced by Hearst Media Production Group in an exclusive partnership with BELFOR Property Restoration, the new season is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, July 11. The series airs weekend mornings on ABC stations nationwide as part of the Weekend Adventure educational and informational programming block.
Shields joins long-time series disaster-recovery expert and first-responder advocate Sheldon Yellen to present rescue stories from across the country. Yellen, who serves as the chief executive officer of BELFOR Property Restoration, utilizes his industry expertise to provide context to the broadcast. He also participates in training sessions and demonstrations alongside first responders to illustrate the dangers encountered during life-threatening events.
The television series focuses on showcasing the efforts of first responders and everyday heroes. Over its first seven seasons, the production has featured more than 750 rescuers, including police officers, firefighters, military members, and emergency medical technicians. The program has covered nearly 220 stories involving extreme natural and manmade conditions while also facilitating on-screen reunions between survivors and rescuers.
The educational series has previously earned a Parents’ Choice Award, a Daytime Emmy nomination, and 63 international Telly Awards. Bryan Curb, executive vice president and general manager of education and information at Hearst Media Production Group, noted that the series aims to deliver life-saving information in an impactful manner. The production company currently maintains a portfolio of more than 30 original series distributed across broadcast networks and streaming platforms.
Shields enters the hosting role with a career that includes more than 125 acting, producing, and directing credits. Her current professional projects include starring in and executive producing the mystery series You’re Killing Me on Acorn TV, as well as a recent return to the Hallmark Channel program When Calls the Heart. She also operates as the founder and chief executive officer of the company Commence.
