Apple TV announced “Lenni,” a new comedy-drama starring Academy Award nominee Toni Collette, on Wednesday. Production is underway in Sydney, Australia, supported by the New South Wales government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.
Collette plays Lenni, a divorced social worker who, after a family tragedy, tries to protect her loved ones from the rough-and-tumble of life. Described as a darkly comedic mystery about family, the series follows Lenni, a child welfare worker and mother of two, as she fights for other people’s families while her own is in a constant state of chaos. This season, a new case puts the stakes higher as her work and personal life collide.
“Lenni” is based on the Norwegian series “Pernille,” created by Henriette Steenstrup. Emmy and BAFTA Award winner Dearbhla Walsh, whose credits include “Bad Sisters” and “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” directs the series. Sarah Scheller, known for “The Letdown” and “Strife,” adapted it.
Joining Collette in the cast are Ciarán Hinds, Dan Wyllie, Josh McKenzie, Celeste Barber, Genevieve Hegney, Arka Das and Wayne Blair. Collette is also known for “Hereditary” and “Wayward.”
Made Up Stories and Keshet International produce the series for Apple TV. Executive producers are Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Katie Amos, Avi Nir, Keren Shahar, Scheller, Walsh and Collette. Steenstrup also serves as an executive producer, alongside Bård Fjulsrud and Tanya Badendyck. “Pernille” was produced by Monster for Viaplay.
