Rhino High Fidelity releases audiophile vinyl reissues of J. Geils Band, Uncle Tupelo
Rhino High Fidelity announced Thursday the release of two limited-edition audiophile vinyl reissues: The J. Geils Band’s “Live” Full House and Uncle Tupelo’s Anodyne.
The releases are part of the Rhino Hi-Fi series, which focuses on high-end audio quality and archival-grade packaging. Both albums were cut from the original master tapes by mastering engineer Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Optimal in Germany.
Each title is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies and is available exclusively through Rhino.com and select international Warner Music Group stores.
“Live” Full House, originally released in 1972, captures The J. Geils Band during a two-night stand at Detroit’s Cinderella Ballroom. The album became the group’s first Top 40 record and is often cited as one of the quintessential live rock documents of the era.
In new liner notes for the reissue, lead singer Peter Wolf called the recording one of his personal favorites. “This recording encapsulates the energy and spontaneity we always tried to give our audiences,” Wolf wrote. “What you hear is the true, raw, unfiltered sound.”
The second release, Uncle Tupelo’s 1993 album Anodyne, marks the final studio effort from the alt-country pioneers before the band split to form Wilco and Son Volt. Recorded live in the studio in Austin, Texas, the album features a blend of punk energy and traditional country elements, including the tracks “Chickamauga” and “The Long Cut.”
Music journalist Mark Deming contributed new liner notes for the Anodyne reissue, noting that the album served as “both a grand finale and a new beginning” for the influential group.
Both reissues feature glossy gatefold packaging with tip-on jackets, staying true to Rhino High Fidelity’s goal of honoring the original intent of seminal albums through superior sound and design.
