California State Parks is inviting U.S. military veterans and their families to enjoy free admission to 145 state parks on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
“Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to honor the courage, commitment and sacrifices of the men and women who serve to protect our nation,” said California State Parks Director Armando Quintero. “With our endless gratitude, we invite veterans, service members and their families to enjoy the beauty and peace their state parks have to offer. Truly, a wonderful way to honor our nation’s veterans.”
Parks from all corners of California are taking part. Participating locations include Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the California State Railroad Museum, Mount Tamalpais State Park, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and Pismo State Beach, among others. A full list of participating parks is available on the California State Parks website.
Veterans, including active duty and reserve military personnel, are eligible. Visitors should bring a valid military ID or proof of discharge other than dishonorable or bad conduct to receive free admission.
The offer stems from Assembly Bill 150, signed by Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2013. The law authorized State Parks to offer veterans, active duty and reserve military personnel from the U.S. Armed Forces and the National Guard of any state reduced or free day use at participating parks.
Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and check the website or social media pages of their destination to confirm hours of operation, local conditions and guidelines. Safety tips for responsible recreation are also available on the State Parks website.
