Hello Kitty is returning to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with a new giant balloon for the parade’s 100th year. The balloon shows Hello Kitty holding a red apple, a reference to New York City’s nickname, the Big Apple.
Sanrio and Macy’s also announced a Hello Kitty and Friends collection made exclusively for Macy’s. The 23-piece capsule uses balloon-style artwork featuring Sanrio characters. It includes women’s and girls’ apparel, Loungefly backpack and bag charms, a Kidrobot plush bag charm and pin set, and seasonal decor from Blue Sky Clayworks.
The collection is available now on the Macy’s website. It will arrive in select Macy’s stores nationwide, including the Herald Square flagship store in New York, on Oct. 15.
Jill Koch, Sanrio’s chief brand officer, called the parade a cherished American tradition and said the brand is honored to mark the milestone. Will Coss, executive producer of the parade, said the collection gives fans a way to take home a piece of this year’s celebration.
The 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs Thursday, Nov. 26, on NBC and Peacock. Coverage starts at 8:30 a.m. in all time zones. Fans can follow @macys on social media and the hashtag #MacysParade for updates.
Sanrio is a global lifestyle brand known for characters including Hello Kitty and Kuromi.
