The Hidden Parlor has officially opened its doors at 69 Park Street in downtown Andover, arriving as interest in American Mahjong experiences a major resurgence across the region. The new venue features spaces dedicated to American Mahjong, alongside a library lounge, a Zoom room, and member lockers.
The local opening follows a broader trend documented across the Boston area, where Eventbrite data reported by Boston.com showed a 420% increase in Mahjong events between 2024 and 2025. Yelp’s 2026 Trend Forecast also highlighted a 4,467% surge in searches for Mahjong clubs and an 819% increase in searches for lessons.
More than 70 individuals from over two dozen communities across Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire have already joined The Hidden Parlor Society. The membership brings together working mothers, empty nesters, and retirees who utilize the venue’s open play and match coordination.
Visitors can book open play sessions, lessons, guided play, and select events, with prospective guests invited to take advantage of a complimentary first visit. More than 60 members and guests attended opening week, filling six tables for the launch of the Tuesday Evening League.
While American Mahjong remains the central focus, the venue plans to expand its social offerings to include a book club, bridge, and other group games. Guests enter through a boutique before passing through a hidden door into the main parlor spaces.
