The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad will be featured in an upcoming educational segment of the public television series All Access hosted by Andy Garcia. Based in Cumberland, Maryland, the non-profit organization operates historic rail lines as an educational venue for school groups, families, and visitors.
The featured segment focuses on how the organization addressed physical and cognitive accessibility challenges within historic transportation infrastructure. The non-profit became the first heritage railroad in the United States to earn designation as a Certified Autism Center.
To achieve the credential, the organization implemented staff training programs, sensory guide resources, and designated quiet areas to support neurodivergent guests. The updates aim to reduce stress caused by noise, crowds, and schedule shifts common in travel environments.
