The Cape Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The musical comedy will run from September 2 to September 19, serving as the final show of the 2026 season.
Directed by Claybourne Elder and choreographed by Jeffrey Gugliotti, the production features a book by Rachel Sheinkin, music and lyrics by William Finn, and additional material by Jay Reiss. The creative team includes Music Director Anna Ebbesen, Scenic Designer Adam Koch, Costume Designer Annie J. Le, Lighting Designer Kat Zhou, Sound Designer Joanna Lynne Staub, and Casting Director Stephanie Klapper.
The cast features Viveca Chow as Marcy Park, Tatianna Córdoba as Olive Ostrovsky, Raymond J. Lee as Charlito “Chip” Tolentino, and Evan Tyrone Martin as Mitch Mahoney. Julia Murney will play Rona Lisa Peretti alongside Khadija E. Sankoh as Logainne “Schwartzy” SchwartzandGrubenierre, Cody Jamison Strand as William Morris Barfée, Joel Waggoner as VP Douglas Panch, and Alex Wyse as Leaf Coneybear. Lauren Marut and Leo Gonzalez will serve as understudies.
The musical follows six adolescents competing in a spelling championship while navigating the pressures of winning and losing. The production incorporates audience participation as the adult actors portray the adolescent contestants spelling their way through the competition.
