Paper Mill Playhouse opens new season with production of Mary Poppins

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced that Kara Lindsay will star in the title role of Mary Poppins to open its 2026-2027 season. Performances begin Wednesday, November 18, at the venue in Millburn, New Jersey, with an official opening scheduled for Sunday, November 22. The run continues through Sunday, January 3.

The production will be directed by Paper Mill Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee, with choreography by Denis Jones and music direction by Ben McNaboe. Single tickets go on sale August 24, while subscription packages for the upcoming season are currently available.

“We are delighted to welcome back the brilliant Kara Lindsay to Paper Mill Playhouse for Mary Poppins, the first show of our 2026-2027 season,” Hoebee said. He noted Lindsay’s history with the theater, which includes her performance in the original stage production of Newsies.

The musical is based on the stories by P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film. It features a book by Julian Fellowes, original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Lindsay originated the role of Katherine Plumber in Newsies on Broadway and played Glinda in Wicked. Her other stage credits include Beautiful: The Carole King MusicalOnce Upon a Mattress, and Romy & Michele: The Musical, along with television appearances on Murphy Brown.
