Tours of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in Queens are now available to book on weekly Saturdays and select monthly Sundays through December. The New York City workshop serves as the primary studio location for building and maintaining characters across the company’s productions.
The tour schedule incorporates rotating seasonal displays featuring archival puppets and props. September visits focus on founder Jim Henson’s birthday, with additional tour availability scheduled for Sept. 26 and Sept. 27.
October tours will highlight spooky character builds, coinciding with the weekend of New York Comic Con. November visits will focus on the 2015 television special Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow, examining the four monster puppets created by the workshop.
In December, the display will showcase holiday projects, including puppets from Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas and Princess the baby Gorg from Fraggle Rock. Each visit includes a walkthrough of the workshop floor, a puppetry demonstration by a Henson performer, and a session with a master puppet builder.
Tickets for the tours are $150 plus taxes and fees through Jim Henson Experiences. Attendees also gain access to exclusive merchandise, including custom apparel, collectibles, and material scrap bags from the shop.
