An untitled documentary centered on the television series Gilmore Girls is currently in production for HBO Max. Directed by Bonni Cohen, the project stands as the first authorized documentary about the show, which marked the 25th anniversary of its debut in 2025.

The film is produced by R.J. Cutler’s This Machine, a part of Sony Pictures Television, in association with Warner Horizon Unscripted Television. Executive producers for the project include Mark Blatty, Jane Cha Cutler, R.J. Cutler, Daniel Palladino, Elise Pearlstein, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and Trevor Smith.

The documentary provides an insider look into the making of the series through interviews with creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, star Lauren Graham, and additional key cast and crew members. The feature explores how the show developed into a cross-generational television series.

Archival materials will be integrated throughout the film, including script pages, never-before-seen outtakes, and behind-the-scenes footage from the production of the show. Bonni Cohen and Melissa Robledo serve as producers on the project.

This Machine is also developing feature documentaries focused on Julie Andrews and Olivia Newton-John. Warner Horizon Unscripted Television continues its production lineup, which includes The Bachelor franchise, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, and The Voice.
