London Records has released a definitive reissue of the 1990 Happy Mondays album Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches. The updated collection features all original audio remastered directly from the Factory Records master tapes.
The reissue is available across several physical and digital formats, including a 5LP super deluxe edition, a 4CD set, a 2CD edition, vinyl pressings, cassette, and a limited pill-themed download package. A new visualizer for the track God’s Cop has also been released alongside the album.
The multi-disc editions include the original album alongside the Hallelujah and Madchester Rave On EPs, plus a live recording of the band’s 1991 show at Elland Road titled Baby Baby Big Head Bootleg Album. Select formats also feature a 60-page book with liner notes written by journalist James Brown and an essay on the record’s artwork by original design group Central Station.
Originally recorded at Eden Studios in London and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles with producers Steve Osborne and Paul Oakenfold, the album reached number four on the charts following its initial release. The record produced several major singles for the group, including Step On, Kinky Afro, and Loose Fit.
The release follows recent UK tour dates celebrating the 35th anniversary of the album. The band previously undertook a headline tour last year, which marked their first live circuit following the death of founding member Paul Ryder in 2022.
