Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jacob Reese Thornton, performing as Jacob & the Dazey Chain, released his new single “This Might Be War” on all platforms Friday. The track is the second single from the band’s upcoming EP and represents a guitar-driven evolution for the project.

The song was inspired by Thornton’s experiences during his first tour of the United Kingdom. According to Thornton, the track is completely autobiographical, born from encountering both extreme hostility and kindness while traveling through rural parts of England on a gritty club tour.

“Experiencing rural parts of England through a gritty club tour reshaped how I see the world and this song was born out of those moments,” Thornton said. “Even on the hardest days, there is still some ‘glitter in the grind.’”

The release follows Thornton’s signing earlier this year with East Iris Records, a division of Universal Music Group. The forthcoming EP was produced by Tone Def, known for work with Green Day and Briston Maroney, and was recorded at East Iris Studios in Nashville.

Jacob & the Dazey Chain have been active since 2019, blending Britpop influences like Oasis with alternative rock edges reminiscent of The Strokes and The Killers. The band has performed at major events such as Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival and recently completed a tour of the U.S. East Coast and the U.K., which included headline shows in London and Manchester.

Thornton’s previous work includes the debut album “DON’T LOOK AWAY!” and the EP “The Sky Is All I Need to Get High,” the latter of which reached Amazon’s Top 25 best-selling alternative rock releases. He has collaborated with notable musicians including Rami Jaffee of Foo Fighters and Tony Franklin of The Firm. Thornton is currently an ambassador for Magnatone Amplifiers and is endorsed by Taylor Guitars and Ernie Ball.
