Indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers released their tenth studio album, The Former Site Of, Friday through Merge Records, accompanied by the announcement of an expanded U.S. fall tour.

The album, which follows 2023’s Continue as a Guest, features ten tracks described by frontperson A.C. Newman as “meticulously crafted pop songs” focusing on people at personal and societal extremes. The title draws inspiration from historical road signs in upstate New York marking towns that were flooded to create reservoirs for New York City.

“I was fascinated by the history, the towns that were almost wiped from history,” Newman said in a statement. “It felt like a good starting place for an album. We all have parts of our lives that are gone.”

The recording features the established lineup of Newman, Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, and Todd Fancey. For the first time, the group is joined by session drummer Charley Drayton, known for his work with The Rolling Stones and Fiona Apple.

The band begins its U.S. tour April 22 at The Wilbur in Boston, featuring support from Will Sheff of Okkervil River. Due to high demand, the group added several fall dates to the itinerary, including stops in Kansas City, Nashville, and San Diego. Josh Wells of Destroyer and Black Mountain joins the ensemble as the touring drummer for the spring performances.

The Former Site Of includes the previously released singles “Votive,” “Spooky Action,” and “Pure Sticker Shock.” The album is available digitally and in multiple vinyl variants, including exclusive “Mai Tai” and “Spilled Ink” editions. Click here to order/save.

Tickets for the full tour are currently on sale through the band’s official website.
