Tank and the Bangas announce new album ‘The Last Balloon,’ release single featuring Lucky Daye

Grammy Award-winning group Tank and the Bangas will release their new album, The Last Balloon, on May 15 via Verve Forecast, the band announced.
The project marks the final installment in the group’s “Balloon” trilogy, following their previous releases “Green Balloon” (2019) and “Red Balloon” (2022), while also signaling a new creative direction.
In conjunction with the announcement, the band unveiled the album’s lead single, “Move,” featuring Grammy-winning R&B artist Lucky Daye.
Frontwoman Tarriona Ball said the album title reflects a transition for the group.
“I called the album ‘The Last Balloon’ because I didn’t want anyone asking us, ‘When’s Purple Balloon coming?’” Ball said in a statement. “It’s the end of the balloons; we’re moving into a new space now.”
Executive-produced by Austin Brown, the album was primarily recorded at The Complex Studios in Los Angeles and features collaborations with artists including Iman Omari, Tane Runo, Ledisi, and Jelly Joseph.
The new record explores themes of resilience, self-realization, and emotional growth, blending elements of funk, hip-hop, gospel, and R&B—genres that have defined the band’s sound since their emergence.
Tank and the Bangas also announced an expansion of their summer and fall tour, with performances scheduled in major cities including New York City, Boston, Detroit, and Washington, D.C.
The announcement follows a milestone period for the band, who won a Grammy Award in 2024 for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album for their project “The Heart, The Mind, The Soul.”
Formed in New Orleans, the group gained national recognition after winning NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2017. They have since built a reputation for their genre-blending music and dynamic live performances, appearing on programs such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Austin City Limits” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Tank and the Bangas have also performed at major festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and the Newport Jazz Festival, continuing to expand their presence on the national and international stage.
