Millions of neighbors across thousands of communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide will participate in the 43rd annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the nationwide community-building campaign aims to foster relationships between residents and local law enforcement.

Since starting in 1984 as an initiative centered on porch lights and front yard vigils, the campaign has expanded into an annual event designed to build neighborhood unity. More than 17,000 communities are scheduled to participate in this year’s events.

Matt Peskin, executive director at the National Association of Town Watch and creator of National Night Out, noted that the growth of the program demonstrates how neighbors and law enforcement working together can help build connected communities.

Participating neighborhoods typically host block parties, cookouts, parades, safety demonstrations, youth activities, and visits from emergency response personnel. These gatherings offer residents a casual environment to meet local officers, strengthen community trust, and establish lines of communication.

Corporate sponsors supporting this year’s event include ADT, Nintendo, AT&T, Starbucks, 7-Eleven Cares Foundation, Dollar Tree, Associa, and Family Dollar. Municipalities and local agencies can register events online through the organization’s official website.
