The Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago will welcome back performer Mark Ballas for a limited summer engagement. Ballas is scheduled to appear in the production for four weeks, beginning Monday, July 20 and running through Sunday, August 16, 2026. He will take over the role of lawyer Billy Flynn at the Ambassador Theatre, located at 219 W. 49th Street.
During his most recent run in the role, Ballas broke weekly box office records and helped the production achieve its highest grossing weekly figures in three decades. The performer holds a background in musical theater, having graduated with honors from the Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts and Musical Theatre in London. His previous Broadway appearances include playing Charlie Price in Kinky Boots and serving as the final actor to portray Frankie Valli in the original Broadway run of Jersey Boys.
Outside of theater, Ballas gained national recognition as an 11-time finalist and three-time champion on ABC’s television series Dancing with the Stars. His work on the program earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography. More recently, in 2025, he expanded his television credits by participating as a cast member on the fourth season of Peacock’s competition reality series The Traitors US.
Ballas also works as a musician, producer, and songwriter, performing alongside his wife, BC Jean, in the independent music duo Alexander Jean. The duo has generated more than 200 million global streams since establishing the project in 2015, driven by original tracks like “Roses and Violets” and a viral cover of Marcy Playground’s “Sex and Candy.” BC Jean is a professional songwriter who co-wrote the multi-platinum global hit “If I Were a Boy,” which was recorded by Beyoncé.
The long-running musical Chicago features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The current production is directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking, featuring scenic design by John Lee Beatty and costume design by William Ivey Long. The core company currently features Rachel Schur as Roxie Hart, Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Nik Walker as Billy Flynn, Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton, and Greg Hildreth as Amos Hart.
The narrative focuses on 1920s dancer Roxie Hart, who attempts to escape a murder conviction by employing a smooth-talking defense attorney to manipulate public opinion and media headlines. Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, the revival won six Tony Awards in 1997 alongside a Grammy Award for its cast recording.
