The Lowell Folk Festival has released its full schedule for the three-day event running July 24 through July 26 in downtown Lowell. The festival kicks off Friday at 6:15 p.m. as flag-waving community groups march alongside the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes and Drums to Boarding House Park.
Friday’s musical lineup includes Fabiola Mendez, Melissa Carper, Emily Gimble, and Elida Almeida at Boarding House Park. Meanwhile, Geno Delafose and Super Chikan will launch the weekend dance schedule at the Rockland Trust Bank Dance Pavilion.
On Saturday, festivities run from noon until 10:00 p.m. across downtown. Outdoor stages will feature moderated demonstration panels where artists share cultural traditions, including a string session with John Doyle, Duncan Wickel, Kunal Gunjal, and Fabiola Mendez, as well as performances on the Playspace Family Stage by youth groups, the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers, and The Chankas of Peru.
Sunday programming spans from noon to 6:00 p.m., bringing additional collaborative sessions and concerts. Highlights include performances by Mardi Gras Indian group Dat Mighty 9 featuring Big Chief Romeo, bluegrass act Authentic Unlimited, and discussion panels exploring harmony traditions with Alash and the Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers.
In addition to live music, attendees can sample dishes prepared by New England cultural non-profits at Global Foods locations throughout the site. The Experience Lowell Marketplace will also host local artists and creative entrepreneurs in the Rockland Trust Bank parking lot.
