The Kansas City Chiefs have released initial concept renderings for a new $3 billion enclosed stadium scheduled to open in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2031. The project will feature a fully enclosed translucent ETFE roof and an expected total seating capacity of approximately 70,000 fans.
The club selected Kansas City-based firm MANICA as the lead design architect following a six-month competition, while local sports architecture firm HNTB will serve as the architect of record. CAA ICON led the selection process and is serving as the owner’s representative for the stadium undertaking.
Designed specifically to preserve team traditions, the stadium will include parking infrastructure built to enhance tailgating and roof geometry engineered to maximize crowd noise. The seating bowl will feature a Drum Deck for ceremonies, the Chiefs Ring of Honor, a Lamar Hunt statue in an outdoor plaza, an expanded team store, and a Chiefs Hall of Honor more than twice its current size.
The stadium will anchor a mixed-use development as part of a public-private partnership funded through private investments alongside Sales Tax and Revenue bonds and the Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund. State funding mechanisms were established to ensure no new state taxes are introduced for the project.
According to economic impact figures released by the club, construction of the stadium, headquarters in Olathe, and surrounding development districts is projected to deliver 36,500 job-years and $8.2 billion in regional economic impact. Once operational, the facilities are slated to support 8,500 full-time equivalent jobs and generate $1.5 billion annually.
