The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation has received a $230,000 grant from the Simply Healthcare Foundation to expand New Solutions: A Pediatric Mental Health Treatment and Suicide Prevention Program in Hollywood, Florida. The three-year grant funding began on July 1, 2026, and is designed to serve 267 individuals by providing community-based mental health support outside of hospital settings.
The New Solutions program targets children and adolescents brought to emergency departments during a mental health crisis who do not meet the medical criteria for hospital admission or involuntary holds under Florida’s Baker Act. Patients receive therapy directly in their homes or schools, allowing families to access care while staying integrated into their daily routines.
Referrals are managed directly by the hospital emergency department’s care coordination team, which establishes an immediate handoff to the program with a goal of connecting families to services within 24 hours. Participants receive four to six months of ongoing support from a full-time therapist and case manager, covering individualized therapy, family support, and connections to community resources or parenting groups.
Services are provided through philanthropic funding at no direct cost to eligible participants, removing financial and logistical barriers for families seeking non-hospitalized care. The funding also supports program capacity expansion and local public outreach to raise awareness about available youth behavioral health services.
The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation operates as the philanthropic arm supporting pediatric healthcare programs within the Memorial Healthcare System network. The Simply Healthcare Foundation provides grant funding to local healthcare organizations to improve access to behavioral health resources and preventative care.
