Dweezil Zappa has announced the DZ20: Like Father, Like Son Tour, a 2026 run marking 20 years of performing the music of his father, Frank Zappa. The tour highlights two decades of live interpretation and performance of the catalog.
The project centers on Dweezil Zappa’s long-term work presenting Frank Zappa’s compositions in a live setting. Over the past 20 years, he has built performances around the complexity and range of the original material, spanning rock, jazz, orchestral, fusion, and experimental styles.
DZ20 continues that approach with a focus on both preservation and reinterpretation. The performances are shaped by arrangements that revisit well-known songs while also highlighting deeper catalog cuts and lesser-performed works.
The tour will include more than two hours of music drawn from Frank Zappa’s career. According to the announcement, the performances will feature fan favorites, deep cuts, improvisation, and reworked material designed for the live setting.
Dweezil Zappa has spent two decades assembling musicians to perform this catalog with precision and flexibility. The shows are built around both structured arrangements and moments of improvisation, allowing the music to shift in real time on stage.
He described the project as an ongoing process of returning to the material from new perspectives, with each performance offering variations and unexpected elements within familiar compositions.
The DZ20 tour continues that approach in 2026, framing the milestone as both a reflection on the past 20 years and an extension of the live performance series.
